How it works

Borrowing that's clear from the very first step

From application to decision, here is exactly what happens — and how we decide whether a loan is right for you.

We provide responsible, home-collected credit. Every application is assessed individually to make sure any borrowing is affordable and suitable for your circumstances.

What "home-collected credit" means

We're a home-collected credit provider. That means we do things a little differently from an online-only lender, and it's worth understanding before you apply.

  • You apply online, but you'll meet us in person. If your application progresses, one of our agents will arrange to visit you at home to go through everything and complete your agreement.
  • Your agent collects your repayments. They'll call at your home each week to collect your weekly payment, at a time arranged with you.
  • You'll have the same agent wherever possible, so you're dealing with someone who knows your situation.
  • Our agents carry identification. Always ask to see it. A genuine Home Credit agent will never mind being asked.
  • You can pay another way if you prefer. Home collection is how we usually work, but it isn't your only option — just tell us and we'll arrange an alternative.

We will never pressure you into borrowing more. Our agents do not offer you a new or larger loan during a collection visit. If you want to discuss borrowing again, you contact us first — the conversation starts with you, never with us on your doorstep.

Step by step

The three steps

01

Apply online

It takes just a few minutes. You tell us a little about yourself, your income and what you are looking to borrow. Checking your options has no impact on your credit score.

02

We review your application

A real person — not an automated system — reviews your situation. We assess affordability carefully and may carry out a credit check or ask for a little more information.

03

You get a clear decision, and we arrange to visit

If we can help, we'll arrange for your local agent to visit you at home. They'll explain everything in plain language before anything is agreed: what you will repay, when, and the total cost. Nothing is signed until you are ready.

How we assess your application

Three things, looked at together

We look at three things together to make sure any loan is genuinely affordable:

  • Your income — what you have coming in regularly.
  • Your regular outgoings — your essential bills and existing commitments.
  • Your overall situation — anything else that affects what is manageable for you.

We may carry out a credit check and ask for additional information where needed. Searches at a credit reference agency may be recorded on your file. Our goal is simple — we only lend when it is right for you.

Before you sign anything

Before any agreement is made, you will receive pre-contractual information setting out the full cost of your loan, your repayment schedule, your right to withdraw, and what happens if you miss a payment. Please read it carefully and ask us anything before you decide.

Common questions

Questions, answered plainly

Will applying affect my credit score?

Checking whether you qualify does not affect your credit score. If you proceed with a full application, we may carry out a credit check, which can be recorded on your credit file.

Can I apply if my credit history is imperfect?

Yes. An imperfect credit history does not automatically mean you will be turned down. Your application is assessed by a person who considers your income, outgoings and wider circumstances before making a decision.

How does the application review process work?

After you apply online, a trained member of our team reviews your application individually. We look at your overall situation, not just a credit score, and then contact you with the outcome and any next steps.

What information helps decide affordability?

We consider what you earn, your regular bills and commitments, and whether the repayments would fit your budget. Our goal is to see if the loan is manageable, rather than simply approving as many applications as possible.

How quickly will I get a decision?

Because a real person reviews each application, timing can vary — but we aim to come back to you quickly during our opening hours of 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday.

Is there pressure to accept the loan offer?

No. The process is designed to be clear and without pressure. If we make you an offer, we explain everything before you agree, so you can decide whether it is right for you.

Can I repay early?

Yes. You can repay your loan early at any time, and you may pay less interest as a result. Contact us and we will give you a settlement figure.

What happens if my circumstances change later?

If your situation changes after you borrow, please contact us for support. Our team is trained to work with customers and look for a fair way forward based on your circumstances.

What if I can't keep up with repayments?

Please contact us as early as you can on 07415 741133 or info@homecredit-ltd.co.uk. We will treat your situation with care and work with you to find a fair way forward. Free, impartial debt advice is also available at moneyhelper.org.uk.
